Less Association

My experience first hand is that Power Corrupts Absolutely. Having sat quietly at the back of many a small club general meeting and AGM I have noticed how every 2 or 3 years a new committee turns over with fresh faces ready to be screwed over by the relentless role of volunteer positions. The unsuspecting new member rocks up to their first meeting and is bursting with inner thoughts of these guys are mugs who dont know what they have got here and importantly how I do and what I can do for them. The new member is confident polite and respectful waiting for his opportunity to take the reins and show these Sleepy Hollows what can really happen when someone who knows what they are doing in the modern times is given a chance to take control.

Only flaw in his thinking is that the so called Sleepy Hollows weren't so sleepy, weren't so hollow and certainly saw him coming.

Lickety split our confident polite new member is swept into power either as Secretary or President and unbeknowns to him is left holding the can. If he doesnt work it out in the first 12months waiting for the AGM to come around to vote him out certainly it will dawn in the second and rarely in the third year of utter burn out.

As most of us know who last in club life more than 2 or 3 years volunteers are used and abused and belted from pillar to post and usually to use their own resources Phone Electricity petrol time with no help or enough appreciation from anyone in the club at all. Even if this is wrong and some of us have experienced a club with members that do turn up to working Bs we all know anyone who is still around after 2 or 3 years knows the ropes and salivates when fresh full of themselves new members rock up keeping it quiet what they really think of these hicks on this committee and what they think they can do for us!

Many club members who truly love the sport and have lasted past the 2 or 3 year cycle and havent left will know this phenomenom well and they are the tried and true supporters of polo clubs nation wide. It is definately not the Associations who are stacked with smooth operators driblling from both corners of their mouth for the paypackets these associations dole out.

If you ask for my opinion Id get rid of the lot of them and let the clubs look after each other. This centralisation of power corrupts
